Preventing Device Compromise and Remote Access Exploitation During Digital Asset Transactions

Remote access tools are frequently weaponised by fraudsters seeking direct control of personal computers to initiate unauthorised cryptocurrency transfers. Recognising the risks of third-party remote assistance is essential for protecting self-custody wallets and online exchange accounts.

  • Never install desktop sharing or remote management utilities at the instruction of third parties offering trading assistance, software troubleshooting, or portfolio setup guidance.
  • Legitimate platforms and support representatives will never request direct viewing of your screen while entering credentials, accessing recovery phrases, or completing security verification steps.
  • If an unauthorised session has occurred, immediately disconnect the device from the internet, alert your bank, and inform relevant exchange compliance teams to restrict outbound movements.
  • Submit a comprehensive formal report to Action Fraud detailing the software used, IP connections where available, and destination addresses to assist onchain tracing efforts.
