Preserving Essential Transaction Evidence and Records Following Cryptocurrency Fraud Incidents

Accurate record-keeping immediately after an incident provides investigators and authorities with the vital data needed to trace misappropriated funds. Capturing immutable transaction details, communications, and platform records assists subsequent formal reports to UK enforcement bodies and financial institutions.

  • Record every relevant onchain transaction hash alongside the originating and recipient public wallet addresses, ensuring strings are copied precisely from an onchain explorer rather than relying solely on user interface screenshots.
  • Export and securely archive all electronic correspondence, including chat transcripts, email headers, profile identifiers, and URLs, before the perpetrators can delete accounts or modify shared communication channels.
  • Notify your bank fraud department immediately if fiat currency was used to purchase the initial assets, and lodge an unedited report with the compliance teams of any custodial platforms involved.
  • File a formal crime report with Action Fraud containing the comprehensive chronological summary and verified transaction hashes, which creates a formal police reference number for your ongoing inquiry.
