Fraud

Impersonation fraud

In one sentence

Someone posing as a bank, exchange, investigator or official to obtain funds or access.

Impersonation of legitimate firms is common after a loss, because victim details circulate. Approaches often reference real company names, registration numbers and addresses to appear verifiable.

Every genuine firm publishes one set of contact details. Check them at the source, and call the published number rather than any number provided to you.
